Here are some creative ideas on how to begin using it at your organization:
Set Alerts – An example of this would be setting an alert if a certain number of incidents are opened within a particular timeframe. This could be a sign that there is a large outage or issue with something within the environment. Another example could be setting an alert if machines have not run a vulnerability or compliance scan within a particular timeframe.
Service Improvement/Training Opportunity – Create a dashboard or report that shows incidents by service or application over a period of time. Either user training or possibly looking at upgrading or replacing the service/application causing the incidents can improve the services or applications that are generating the most incidents probably. Depending on what data is being collected by using categories or other fields will determine how much investigation may be needed to determine the underlying issue.
Incidents by Department – This is another way that focused training needs can be determined. By creating a dashboard or report showing which departments are creating the most incidents and then further analyzing the data, it can be determined which departments might benefit from some additional training. By providing training the service desk burden should be lowered and the user satisfaction level should go up.
